Itinerary
Duration: 11 days and 8 nights
Day 1: Thursday Depart a USA International Airport on a TRANSIT flight to Ghana Transit flights stopover in Europe or Africa. Possible change of Aircraft OR Depart a USA International Airport, on a DIRECT flight to Accra, Ghana
Day 2: Friday Transfer to connecting flight in Europe, UAE or Africa Arrive at Kotoka International Airport, Accra in the morning or evening. OR Direct flights arrive at Kotoka International Airport in the afternoon. Upon arrival, complete Customs and Immigration formalities and retrieve your baggage. Exit the airport Arrival Hall and meet your tour guide outside. He or she will be holding a placard with the tour group name and lead you to the Airport Parking lot to board a vehicle or tour bus. Morning, afternoon, and evening transfers to your hotel depending on flight arrival time. Spend the rest of the afternoon/evening at leisure recuperating from your flight. Day 3: Saturday After breakfast, check out of the hotel and start a road trip to the Eastern Region of Ghana. Your drive goes through Tema Motorway, the first of its kind in the country built by the country’s first president, Kwame Nkrumah. Enroute, stop over at the Shai Hills Resource Reserve located outside of Accra. Upon arrival, tour the Nature Reserve on foot or seated in the tour bus. Disembark from the tour bus at the Reception Area and interact with the Baboons that eagerly receive bananas given to them. During the tour you will see a variety of animals including Zebras and Ostriches, along with different species of antelopes such as KOB, BUSHBUCK and DUIKER. Early afternoon arrival at Akosombo in the Eastern region. Volta Lake, one of the largest man-made lakes in the world, is located here. Go on a city tour including views of the Akosombo Dam and Adomi Bridge. Transfer to the Royal Senchi Resort located on the banks of the Volta Lake for lunch. After lunch, go on a Boat Cruise on the Volta Lake that passes under the Adomi Bridge. Spend the rest of the day exploring the lakefront resort, swimming, or engaging in water recreational sports activities. Check-in to your rooms in the early evening. Day 4: Sunday Enjoy an early breakfast at the resort and start a road trip to the Volta Region, Ghana’s Eco-Tourism and Adventure haven. Your destination is Wli Waterfalls located in Hohoe. The waterfall which has a lower and upper fall, is the highest in Ghana and the tallest in West Africa. Upon arrival, take a hike through the Agumatsa Wildlife Sanctuary which features more than 200 bird species and 400 butterfly species. Spend some time viewing the spectacular waterfall, taking pictures or swimming in the pool at its base. After lunch, head to the Tafe Atome Monkey Sanctuary and Cultural Village near Kpando. The sanctuary is a traditional sacred grove conservation established by a Peace Corps Volunteer as a community based ecotourism project. It is home to 300 Mona and Patas monkeys. The monkeys are very friendly and interact with humans. After this exciting experience, start the return road trip to the Eastern Region. Arrive at the resort in the early evening and have dinner. Day 5: Monday After breakfast, check out of the resort and begin your return road trip to Accra. Upon arrival in the late morning, stop over at Accra Mall to shop at Woodin, a Ghanaian Fashion emporium for already made African fashions as well as fabric. Enjoy lunch at the Mall’s food court. The next venue of interest is the W. E. B. Du Bois Center to learn about his life in Ghana and the role he played in Pan Africanism. After this educational tour, head to OSU, a cosmopolitan neighborhood in the city for a brief walking tour. Shop at the pedestrian Artisans Mall and pop in and out of shops on Oxford Street. Late afternoon transfer to the hotel for check-in. After a brief respite and refreshing yourselves, dress up and transfer to Gold Coast Restaurant and Cocktail Bar for a sumptuous dinner. Day 6: Tuesday After breakfast, start the city tour of Accra. Head northeast to Berks Collections to shop for Afrocentric bags, jewelry and clothes. Continue the road trip to TK Beads factory and Boutique to view how Ghanaian Beads are made from glass in earthen furnaces. Spend some time shopping at the onsite boutique for products made from or adorned with Beads. The next venue of interest is the Independence Square and Freedom Arch/Black Star Gate. Take pictures at this iconic landmark which commemorates Ghana’s Independence from colonial rule. After lunch, head to the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park to learn about his role in the struggle for Independence from colonial British rule. The last stop of the day is the Arts & Crafts center to shop for a wide variety of products from different artisans displaying their creative wares. Late afternoon transfer to your hotel. Day 7: Wednesday Enjoy an early breakfast. Check out of the hotel and start a road trip to Cape Coast in the Central Region of Ghana. Drive on to Assin Manso for a tour of the Slavery Memorial and Slave River, where captured slaves were afforded their last bath before heading to the Slave Forts located along the coast. Upon completion of the tour, embark on a short road trip back to Elmina and transfer directly to the beach resort for a mid-afternoon check in. After a late lunch, go on a short drive to Cape Coast Castle for a tour of the castle and Slavery Museum. Also experience an emotional tour of the Slave Dungeons and the “Door of No Return” Late afternoon transfer to the resort for check-in. After dinner, spend the evening at leisure. Day 8: Thursday After breakfast, check out of the resort for a short road trip to Kakum National Park to experience the “Canopy Walk.” Enjoy the exhilarating views from the 50 meters long rope and wooden walkway suspended 100 feet above the floor of the tropical rainforest. Depending on your luck, you may sight some of the bird species resident in the park After this exhilarating experience, transfer to the resort for lunch. Spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing on a Beach on the Atlantic Ocean on the west coast of Africa. After dinner, spend the evening at leisure. Day 9: Friday Enjoy breakfast and check out of the resort. Commence the return road trip to Accra. Arrival in Accra in the early afternoon. Based on consensus, spend the rest of afternoon re - visiting sites of interest or shopping at new venues in Accra. Early evening transfer to the hotel for check-in. Day 10: Saturday Enjoy your breakfast. Spend the morning and afternoon visiting sites of interest or shopping in Accra. Run last minute errands and package items purchased during your tour. Hotel check-out is in the late morning. Late afternoon/early evening transfer to Marina Mall food court for dinner prior to a final transfer to Kotoka International Airport to check in for your return flight to the USA.
